ಶಿರಾ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು ಪುರಸಭೆಯೆಂದು 1901ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತವಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು 31/12/2006ರಂದು ನಗರಸಭೆಯಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯಾಯಿತು. ಶಿರಾ ನಗರವು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು-ಪೂನಾ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ-04 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 146 ಕಿಮಿ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ನಗರದ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆ 2001ರ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಯಂತೆ 50,088. ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ 31 ವಾರ್ಡ್‌ಗಳಿದ್ದು ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಚುನಾಯಿತ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಗರಸಭೆಯ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿ 17.57 ಚ.ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೀಡಿ ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಕೆಲಸ ನಗರದ ಜನರ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ುದ್ಯೋಗ .

Brief Introduction :-

Sira ULB was started as Town Municipal Council in 1901.It was then costituted as City Municipal Council in 30/12/2006.Sira ULB Contains 31 Wards and equal number of Councilors.The population of the Sira City is 50,088 as per Census 2001.The total area of the City is 17.57 sq.kms. The website of Sira City is launched on 01-08-2007. It will be Considered as a KMRP town .

Historically the foundation of Sira City is attributed to Late Rangappa Nayaka, a chief of Ratnagiri Sira City is a Taluk head quarter. It is located with in Tumkur district. It is located 50 km form the district head quarters and at a distance of 120 kms from Bangalore, the State Capital. The City has been an advantage of being along the National Highway No. 4. There is no railway station and the nearest is at Tumkur. The Sira Taluk is bounded on North by the Hiriyur Taluk of Chitradurga district, on the South by the Tumkur Taluk, on the East by the Madakasira Taluk of Andhra Pradesh State and Madhugiri Taluk of Karnataka State, on the West by the Chikkanayakanahally Taluk.
